New Year - New Prayer

As 2021 is coming to a close, I was thinking on my New Year’s resolutions — mainly trying to remember what I resolved to do for this year. I “think” I remember a couple of them, but am very grateful that we write them down.

In my soul searching, I stumbled on Job 11:14-18, and decided that scrubbing my hands of sin and refusing to entertain evil in my home might be the only resolution I need. It is something I surely need to strive for, but not just as a New Year’s Resolution, but every single day for the rest of my days. This will certainly be something I do my best to do daily — sometimes by the minute.

Upon reflection, it will most assuredly be a resolution for me to be praying for us all, especially all of the loved ones who battle addiction:

Lord, please give us the desire and strength to scrub our hands of sin and refuse to entertain evil in our homes and bodies. Help us face the world unashamed and keep a firm grip on life, guiltless and fearless. Father, give us peace to move past our troubles so they fade like photographs. Open our eyes to see the world washed in sunshine, and stamp out every shadow. Jesus, fill us full of hope so we can relax and be confident again in you and be still in your presence. Thank you, Father for your unconditional love and forgiveness. I ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Amen.
